This is where it all began, Fine Arts, my genesis. One day I visited my next door neighbors where I met two artists, at the time I was 13 years old. One was a sculptor, his name “Mshale”, the other was a water-color paint artist “Frank Ngaruyia”. They had literally turned their house into an exhibition/art studio. On seeing their diverse and creative work, I was totally smitten… That very day, something stirred in my heart and soul “ART”; I had found my life’s calling.

These two artists would later become my greatest mentors, teachers, and source of inspiration as they would slowly lure me into the arts. They definitely were a positive motivating force in my life and I am eternally grateful to them, thank you “Frank Ngaruyia” and “Mshale”.

Eighteen years later I still practice traditional fine arts, for the love of it, having held my first art exhibition at the Hot-Shops: http://www.hotshopsartcenter.com in Omaha, Nebraska (2006). Over the years, nobody has supported me more than my father E.B.Njuguna, mother Leah Njuguna, and sister Ruth Nyakio.

Today, I paint acrylics onto canvas to tell various stories. Seldom do I use watercolor or oil paints, because I think the range of acrylic mediums is much greater. For example, acrylics have the ability to bond onto many different surfaces, and other mediums can be added to adjust their binding characteristics. I also love drawing using instruments like graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoals, chalk, pastels, markers, stylus, and various metals like silverpoints.

My rich artistic background makes me a unique breed, in the design field, for I have a very deep understanding and appreciation for the elements and principles of design, which are the major building blocks used to create all artworks. These principles of design are the overarching truths of the profession. They represent the basic assumptions of the world that guide the design practice, and affect the arrangement of objects within a composition. By comparison, the elements of design are the components of design themselves, the objects to be arranged.
